Amdani Juma has been refused the Right to Remain in a manner breaching the Home Office’s own regulations, not to mention through a disgracefully botched and irregular process that no human being should be subjected to. A torture survivor and pro-democracy activist, Amdani escaped death more than once. He has no family in Burundi; his cousin, brother and sister are all permanently resident in the UK or the Netherlands. Human Rights groups and the UN report ongoing human rights abuses and torture in Burundi.

Nottingham University’s Hicham Yezza is due for removal on flight BA894 from Heathrow T5, destination Algiers, at 9.45am this Sunday, June 1st. A model letter for protesting to British Airways demanding they refuse to carry him is available at:
http://freehichamyezza.wordpress.com/. It can be modified as you wish. Address/fax details follow the letter. BA can refuse to carry Hicham. They have a choice. They must be made to take the right decision.
The university should be ashamed at its disregard for an innocent employee caught up the mess they have created by going along with the government’s Stasi-like ‘anti-terror’ procedures.

On Saturday 19/5/07 there will be a National Day of Action on Asylum Rights. No Borders Nottingham will be in the Market Square from 3.00pm with a stall and banners. Please come along to support us in raising public awareness about asylum issues. The last two demos in the Square, which have focussed on the situation faced by the Congolese, have been big, lively and uplifting and got a good reaction from the public. It would be great to have that sort of atmosphere again, where we celebrate the world we want to see as well as protesting about the one we have. All welcome… See you there!
Check out indymedia for reports from Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow & Birmingham/Coventry…
