Women at Yarl’s wood immigration detention centre have been on hunger strike since Friday last week and in the last couple of days, the detention centre has responded brutally. Small World Cafe is launched at the Square Centre, Alfred Street North Nottingham NG3 1AA. The first event is being organised by Nottingham Afghan Welfare on Thursday 18th February. They will be serving traditional Afghan Food as well as Poetry, Film (Osama) and Music. Food is served at 7pm for a small donation, and entertainment is at 8pm.
Future events – 4th March- Mongolian Night, 18th March- Algerian Night

Selina Adda a national of Ghana and her two children aged five and nine years, residents of Nottingham for the last five years; are currently detained in Yarl’s Wood IRC and due to be forcibly removed from the UK on Wednesday 27th January 2010 @ 14:50 on British Airways flight BA0081 to Accra.

People’s Kitchen is Back! Refugee Forum / Sumac Benefit Night. EVERY SATURDAY. Starting up again 5th September 2009 with Mediterrranean/Middle Eastern themed food – a tempting menu – with music from Greece, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria etc. All food is vegan and available for a small donation.
Food will be served from 6.30pm until all gone. The Bar will be open from 7.30pm to party into the night – guests can be signed in but please consider becoming a member of the Sumac Centre’s ‘Forest Fields Social Club’ so you can come as often as you like in the future (very cheap to join, ask at the bar).
